About Elsa’s Camp

Elsa, my family’s dear friend and neighbour, spent every May to October at this cottage, which she called her ‘camp’, for almost 50 years until the summer she turned 99. She loved the outdoors, being surrounded by nature, and feeding the chipmunks peanuts from her hands. She also loved to hike, swim, paddle her yellow canoe around the lake, and sunbathe on the dock. Most of all, Elsa loved to be surrounded by people, and she filled her camp with friends, stories, and laughter, always over bowls of ice cream and a tin of maple sandwich cookies. The cottage has been lovingly updated, and maintains the simplicity, charm, and warmth that I remember from growing up next door.

We look forward to hosting you at Charleston Lake!
